Working Toward a Future Without Animal Testing
Every year, thousands of animals—including dogs and monkeys—are used in research laboratories. In 2024 alone, countless animals endured lives of confinement and experiments, but it doesn’t have to be this way. 🐾
Ohio Animal Advocates stands alongside other leading agencies, including the National Anti-Vivisection Society and Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, in our fundamental belief that the future of science is humane. By promoting innovative alternatives to animal testing, we are paving the way for research methods that are not only more ethical but also more effective.
Why We Need Change
Animal testing is a longstanding practice in scientific research, but it comes at a high cost to animal welfare. These animals often experience physical and emotional suffering, and many never leave the lab. Furthermore, reliance on animal testing can hinder scientific progress, as results from animal studies do not always translate effectively to humans.
Humane and Effective Alternatives
There are many alternatives to animal testing that prioritize ethics and efficacy. These include:
In Vitro Methods: Using human cells and tissues for research.
Computer Modeling: Harnessing technology to simulate human biology and disease.
Organ-on-a-Chip Technology: Mimicking the structure and function of human organs in microchip form.
Educational Outreach: Promoting humane science practices in academic settings.
How You Can Help
Ending animal testing requires a collective effort. Here’s how you can join us in making a difference:
Learn and Share: Educate yourself about the issues surrounding animal testing and share this knowledge with others. Learn more and find additional resources on our advocacy pages about cosmetics testing and classroom dissection.
Support Alternatives: Advocate for research methods that do not involve animals.
Donate to OAA: Your contribution helps fund our advocacy initiatives that raise awareness, promote legal change and protections for animals, and support animal testing alternatives in science and education. Please give today.
A Future Without Harm
Every step we take brings us closer to a world where scientific progress doesn’t come at the expense of animals. Together, we can build a future where science is driven by compassion and innovation.
