Help Pass the Federal Humane Cosmetics Act

OAA MISSION AREA: Community Compassion

ACTION LEVEL: Federal

Help save the animals

The Humane Cosmetics Act (H.R. 1514/S.B. 2866) phases out animal-based testing for cosmetic products in the United States, and eventually prohibits cosmetics tested on animals in other countries from being sold in the US.

The cosmetics industry is showing unprecedented support for the Humane Cosmetics Act, and consumers are making shopping decisions based upon their personal values. Consumers want products that haven’t been tested on animals.  Senator Rob Portman (R-OH) is one of several senators who introduced this bill.

Over 1,000 North American cosmetics brands have already abandoned animal testing. Cosmetics testing on animals is inhumane, untrustworthy, not cost effective, and at odds with the laws and regulations of many countries throughout the world. India, Australia, and the entire European Union, have already banned (or limited) the use of cosmetic animal testing.  Passing the Humane Cosmetics Act (H.R. 1514/S.B. 2866) would assure that only safe and humane cosmetic products enter the American market.
